The route (also known as route del Penya-segats) is part of S.L. V-50. It goes half way up the cliff, caused by the sharp drop of the Puig Llorença to the sea. The walk shows you a magnificent, panoramic view of the coastline and mediterranean vegetation. There are some ancient caves from fishermen you can visit. The vertical wall shelters the foothpath and provide the perfect setting to enjoy the views on its own.
The route is oriented toward the levante so that the sun in the morning is very intense. In summer its recommended to do the route in the late afternoon, or start it early morning and spend a day at the beach Llebeig and return when there is shade all the way.
The route can be made with children, but not in the last sector which descending and ascending will be difficult.
1 hour one way (ruta straight)
Difficulty low - medium
Easy route with differens in altitude in the last sector to the beach Llebeig
Start: Parking above the Cala del Moraig
Throughout the route we will see caves excavated in the rock and constructions of dry stone at the cliffs wall. These were regularly used as refuge from fishermen, farmers and even smugglers until mid of XXth century. The humble refuge served as shelter in the night, to the storm or to leave tools
Mostly kept the name of those who raised them or used them: Cova de les Morretes, Cova del ti Domingo l’Abiar, Cova de Pepet el Morret, Cova del ti Toni el Senyalat, Cova del Morro del Bou.
On tour, you also can observe some terracing which show, how in the recent past, residents took advantage of the land towards the sea.
The vegetation is dominated by species on the coast of the Marina Alta as lentiscus, the holly and rosemary, accompanied by other as esparto grass, the bayon, Coronilla juncea and lavender. It is also easy to find young pines and other threes such as carob threes, fig threes and olive threes, which have been cultivated to feed the animals. The influence and closeness of the sea is noted in the form and greenery that presented some of the plants (as an example the pines apeare more stunted).
Along the way, you will find other species as the palmito (margalló), the albada, aliaga, thyme, ephedra, honeysuckle, pink, Valencian chime, very rare and endemic species of the area, as well as the lesser knapweed, black hawthorn of rock, the calceolaria, zapatito de la Virgin or the rock scabious.
